 HYDERABAD: Seeking the blessings of the almighty has almost become part of a routine of the Bollywood star couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai after they got married on April 20 this year. Continuing their religious trek on Thursday, the Dhoom 2 pair ‘selected’ a little known dargah in Kadapa for seeking the benefaction of the Almighty.
Kadapa is better known as the home town of chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, but it was Samajwadi Party leader and family friend Amar Singh who chaperoned the couple in his chopper along with mother Jaya Bachchan.
The couple zoomed in from Bangalore around 9 am and straight made a beeline for the Amin Peer dargah at Nakkash Colony. A chadar was offered and special prayers conducted. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan who often accompanies the duo on religious visits was however missing.
It was a colourful spectacle for the eager-beavers and curious onlookers in Kadapa as the couple made their way into the dargah.
The couple, glowing in the morning sunshine, spent almost three hours at the dargah as enthusiastic youths fought to get a glimpse of the couple. Police resorted to a mild lathicharge to control the crowds as the couple went around the 324-year-old dargah. Ameen Peer Saheb dargah is also known as ‘Pedda’ dargah’ and is believed to have been established in 1683 by Sufi saint Peerullah Husaini claiming lineage to Prophet Mohammad. The dargah is also famously called the ‘South Ajmer’ dargah by locals and visitors. Bollywood music director A R Rahman regularly visit the dargah, while chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy occasionally pays a visit. Sources say a number of Bollywood actors and politicians have recently started visiting the Pedda dargah.
Immediately after their wedding in Mumbai, Abhi-Ash visited the Tirupati- Tirumala temple on April 22 to seek Lord Venkateswara’s blessings. Amitabh Bachchan visited the temple on April 15 to offer the first wedding invitation card at the Lord’s feet. The couple came back to Andhra Pradesh on July 29 to pray to Lord Shiva at the Srisailam temple in Kurnool. The couple had also visited the well-known Sri Krishna temple in Guruvayur in Kerala after the marriage. Before the marriage, the couple had visited the Kashi Viswanath and Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi and the Vindhya Vasini temple in Mirzapur. The beauty queen had also visited Pushkar and had offered prayers at the Brahama temple there.
