Soha Ali Khan is curious to know her brother’s girlfriend Kareena Kapoor better says Vidya Prabhu
MUMBAI: Soha Ali Khan is no newcomer but that has not taken away from her freshness; in fact, innocence is written all over her face— which is perhaps one reason why director Sudhir Mishra zeroed in on her for his film ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’.
“I do have that 50’s look,” she concedes, adding that it’s the script and the director that made her say ‘yes’ to the film. “I love the 50s and now that I have watched countless films of that era I have fallen in love with them all over again,” she elaborates.
Vying for her favourite actress spot are the late Meena Kumari and Madhubala. While she loves the former’s ‘seemingly effortless’ performances, the latter’s dialogue delivery is something no one can ever match, she feels. “I remember watching films from that era and getting scared as to how I would ever match those high standards,” she enthuses.
But watching films of that era doesn’t sum up her preparation for the role. “I have done everything— right from a sexy cabaret number and a classical dance to horse-riding in the film; I obviously had to undergo training,” she reveals.
In fact, Soha has given so much of herself to the film that she feels drained. “I’m feeling emptiness within me. But it’s not a reason to worry; it says that I have given my blood and sweat to ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’,” explains Soha.
Soha has two other films that will release soon. “There’s one with Sudhir, called ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’, where I play a small town girl who comes to the city to become a model. There’s also ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’, which is set against the backdrop of the blasts and has me playing a TV journalist,” she replies.
As we veer towards family talk, Soha is quick to say that her mother (veteran Sharmila Tagore) is only too happy for her. “In a given period of time, I have carved a niche for myself and mother couldn’t be happier,” she remarks. But quiz her about brother Saif Ali Khan and his new girlfriend (Kareena Kapoor) and she says diplomatically, “I don’t know why you’re asking me this— Saif is someone I will always stand by. In any case, Saif is very happy these days.
Moreover, it’s his personal life; he’s free to do what he wants. I wouldn’t want to invade his personal space. But yes, I have met Kareena; though only twice until now. She’s a lovely person and I’d love to get to know her better,” she signs off. |
