Pune (PTI): In a stark departure from his earlier themes, eminent filmmaker Shyam Benegal is all set to regale the audience with a comedy film.
"The movie is an attempt to revisit today's Indian villages where television and cell phones are no more a novelty," Benegal said here on Saturday.
He was in the city to attend the sixth edition of the Pune International Film Festival.
Titled as 'Mahadev ka Sajjanpur', the film has been completed and expected to be released soon. Set in contemporary rural background, it stars 'Iqbal' fame Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao in the lead, he said.
Elaborating on his new venture, the Dadasaheb Phalke awardee said the story revolves around a letter-writer who sits in a village post office.
"I thought of making a comedy featuring today's Indian village since the urban audience are generally not interested in the happenings in rural parts of the country," Benegal, considered one of the leading lights of the parallel cinema movement said. |
